Sandpaper Letters

I am creating my own Montessori materials for my childcare and I think that sandpaper letters are very important to help with language development. I purchased all the materials at the Dollar Tree. In total it cost me $9.45 not including the glue I already had and I have some materials left over for other projects.

I looked all over Microsoft Word for the correct text to be used, but I didn't find anything I liked. I ended up googling and found this awesome blog that pointed to this site http://www.montessorimaterials.org/lang2.html and used Cursive - Lower Case.

I cutted them out from the pdf and then traced them on the yellow foam sheets. I glued them down using Turbo tacky glue by Aleene's. Vowels on blue and consonants on red.

I really liked how this project turned out and I can't wait to share it with my toddler.

Pouring & Transferring Activity

Today I got these measuring cups at the store on clearance. They were only a $1 each and I know we will be getting a lot of use from them.

Lalʌnahawi will be learning how to grasping a handle and pouring water will help him develop fine motor control. These simple activities isolate single skills he will later need.

We want to add more Montessori activities in  Lalʌnahawi daily routine. It is one way to with these cups.

I filled them both with a little bit of water, maybe a fourth full and I gave him no instructions. He began to start with the pink into the green.

He then grabbed the now full green cup and then filled the pink one back up.

He did this for quite a while. I was impressed.

No spills either!

Next time we are going to try it with rice! :)

Obstacle Course

An obstacle is great your climbers. Anthony loved it! It is fun for them and also helps them with learning language by you talking to them while they are moving around it. They hear you talk about going under, over, and around.

He is planning his movements. Making his body move the was he wants. He was climbing over and pulling himself up! He was moving oh so fast.

Here he is giving himself kisses.

Pulling himself all by himself.

How to do this at your Home

Put pillows and other items on the floor keeping them close together. Have a chair too so your child will go around it or even under it. Watch your child while they are playing and exploring. Decribe your child's actions to him or her. Talk about going over, under, around, or pulling up. Also talk about the objects in the course. You can also play follow the leader and join in. Make it fun by chasing your kiddo. Mirror your child's emotions. When he or her laughs laugh with him or her.

Party Time with Number One

Still can't believe Anthony is One! His party was a huge hit! It was a Monster Theme, because Anthony is my little monster. We invited 26 over and pretty much everyone came. I think was the perfect amount of people for his party. Shawn and I both have big families so we both just invited one Auntie each and all Anthony's baby friends.
THE CAKE

Loved his cakes! We got them at Festival Foods. The bakery team there is awesome. I gave them a photo of a cake and asked if they would be able to create it.

I hand drew this and asked if it could go on his smash cake. His cakes turned out WAY better than I could have imagine! The bonus part is that smash cakes are free and the bigger cake was only $15.99. I thought it was going to be around $35 so that was a plesant surpise.

ADOPT A MONSTER

I made little monsters out of scrap material and bought some bubbles and drew faces on them.
